The temperatures are rising which can only mean one thing. Summer is here and that means a new Top 10 Things to Do in Paragould. Check out these exciting events that are perfect for family and friends.

1. Battle for the win.

Join the American Red Cross and the Paragould Police and Fire Departments for Battle of the Badges. The American Red Cross will be hosting a Blood Drive at the Community Center on June 2, 2023. Donate blood in honor of your favorite agency: police vs.  fire, to see who will win! 2. Attend a rodeo.

Grab your cowboy hat and head to the Greene County Fairgrounds for Rodeo on the Ridge. The 8th Annual Rodeo on the Ridge will take place June 2-3, 2023. Gates open at 6PM with all the action starting at 7PM. Tickets can be purchased at the gate. Adult tickets are $10, children’s tickets are $5 and children aged 4 years or younger are free.

In conjunction with the Rodeo, join fellow runners for Running on the Ridge. This year’s race will benefit the Henry Wrinkles Foundation with both 5K and 10K options. The course routes will be through Downtown Paragould & on a portion of the 8 Mile Creek Trail with the start and finish at the Greene County Fairgrounds. All participants will receive a FREE ticket to Saturday night’s Rodeo on the Ridge as well as a finisher prize. Packet pick-up for the race will be Friday, June 2 from 5PM-7PM at the Greene County Fairgrounds entrance. 3. Send the kids to summer camp.

If you're looking for something for the kids to do this summer, why not send them to summer camp? The Ridge Retreat and Adventure Center hosts Crowley's Ridge Youth Camp for different age groups. See the list of camps available below:

  • Day Camp - June 5-8 - Ages 5-9 years old - $90 per child
  • Camp Discovery - June 11-16 - Ages 8-12 years old - $160 per child
  • Camp Exploration - June 18-23 - Ages 11-17 years old - $160 per child
  • Camp Adventure - June 25-30 - Ages 9-16 years old - $160 per child
  • Teen Week - July 9-14 - Ages 13-18 years old - $160 per child

4. Enjoy activities at the library.

Come "all together now" for Greene County's Public Library's Summer Reading program. During the summer, the Library hosts several activities each week (except the week of July 4) to keep kids engaged and having fun. See the schedule below for more information:

June 6 - June 29 and July 10-13

  • Mondays - Toddler Time at 10:30AM
  • Tuesdays - Movie at 2PM with Grab-n-Go Craft Bags all day
  • Wednesdays - Performer Day at the Collins Theatre at 10:30AM

In addition to these fun activities, there are plenty of other fun things at the library from finding a new favorite movie to getting some seeds to start a garden. The possibilities are endless!

5. Go fish!

Summer is a good time to go fishing and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is providing a free lesson in fishing. Join staff from the Forrest L. Wood Crowley's Ridge Nature Center at Reynolds Park for a morning of fishing fun on June 9 from 10-11:30AM. Learn basics including tips and tricks to begin your fishing journey. The next day, June 10, children can use their tips and tricks to fish in the 41st Annual Reynolds Park Fishing Rodeo. This free fishing rodeo takes place at Reynolds Park for children and there is food, fun, and of course, fishing! Prizes and trophies are awarded to the winners. In addition to these fishing activities, the weekend of June 9-11 is free fishing weekend across the state. Residents and non-residents may fish anywhere in Arkansas from noon Friday, June 9, until midnight Sunday night, June 11, without fishing licenses or trout permits. 6. Spend an evening at the track.

Crowley's Ridge Raceway is a 1/4 mile clay oval track located just southwest of Paragould. Each Saturday night all summer long your family can enjoy dirt track racing. General admission is $10, Kids (6 – 10 years old) are $5, Kids 5 and under are free. You can also get a Pit Pass for $25. Gates open at 5PM with races starting at 7:30PM. 7. Play board games.

If you love board games but don’t have enough players, visit The Foundry on the second Saturday of the month at 6PM. Bring your favorite board game and some food and join in the fun. You get the chance to meet new people and maybe even find a new favorite board game. The dates for the next few months are below:

8. Attend a comic convention.

Enjoy Northeast Arkansas’ only anime and comic convention right here in Paragould on July 8 from 10AM to 6PM and July 9 from 10AM to 4PM. This event brings fans of anime, comics, toys and all things nerdy together, along with celebrity guests! Come out to the Paragould Community Center to shop, game, and cosplay. 9. Listen to bluegrass music.

You’re invited to the 3rd Annual Collins' Big Grass Bluegrass Festival at the Collins Theatre on July 20, 21, and 22! 10. Make a splash!

Get ready to get soaked at Street Splash in Downtown Paragould. The Paragould Fire Department opens the fire hydrants and brings their truck to enjoy splashing and water fun! This year’s event is August 5 from 10AM to 12PM. To get more information, visit their Facebook page or call (870) 240-0544.
